ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) by announcing the schedule of general elections on Thursday put all speculations about the polls to rest.
The elections will be held on July 25.
The returning officers will invite nominations from candidates on June 1, while nomination papers will be filed from June 2 to 6, according to the schedule of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
The list of nominated candidates will be published on June 7 and the last date for scrutiny of nomination papers will be June 14. The June 19 will be the last date for filing appeals against rejection or acceptance of nomination papers.
The last date for appellate tribunals of the ECP for deciding appeals against decisions of returning officers will be June 26.
According to the schedule, the list of validly nominated candidates will be published on June 27, while the last date for withdrawal of candidature will be June 28.
The ECP will allocate election symbols to candidates on June 29 and the final list of the contesting candidates will be displayed on the same day.
The ECP, yesterday, also consulted the representatives of political parties having representation in parliament over the code of conduct for political parties and candidates.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) retired Justice Sardar Mohammad Raza presided over the meeting, in which representatives of political parties expressed concern over uncertainty about timely holding of polls and asked the commission to immediately announce schedule for elections.
