Former chief secretary Fazlur Rehman named Caretaker CM Sindh

KARACHI: The government and opposition reached to consensus over the name of former chief secretary Fazlur Rehman as the caretaker chief minister of Sindh.

The outgoing Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shaha and opposition leader Khawaja Izharul Hassan on Thursday night announced the decision during a joint press conference.

During the earlier talks, People’s Party had suggested the names of Qayyum Soomro, Dr. Younus Soomro and Ghulam Ali Pasha, while the MQM had floated the names of former chief secretary Fazlur Rehman and seasoned politician and media personality Javed Jabbar.

The two sides, however, agreed upon the name of former Sindh chief secretary Fazlur Rehman with the belief, he will perform his responsibilities with honesty and as per the expectations of the people.

Murad Ali shah during the press conference said that it was a difficult task to choose a caretaker chief minister among the score of nominees. “We wanted a person acceptable to all the political parties,” the outgoing CM said.

Opposition leader Khawaja Izharul Hassan said that Fazlur Rehman will utilise his rich experience and professional abilities to hold transparent elections.

The nominated Caretaker CM of Sindh, Fazlur Rehman has served as Sindh chief secretary from 2007 to 2010.

The summary of the caretaker chief minister has been forwarded to the Governor of Sindh for his approval.
