ANP leader Daud Khan ‘narrowly escapes death’in Chaman

CHAMAN: Awami National Party (ANP) leader Daud Khan Achakzai narrowly escaped death on Monday morning when armed men shot and injured him in Chaman.

It was reported by security and rescue officials that the former senator received two gunshot wounds on his right arm when four unidentified men opened fire at him at his house in Chaman.

The attackers fled the crime scene leaving the leader injured.

He was shifted to Quetta seeking medical attention and is reported to be in a stable condition.

A search operation has been launched by security personnel following the firing incident.

The armed attack comes a day after the country observed mourning day over recent terrorist attacks on election candidates in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ahead of the general elections.

ANP leader Haroon Bashir Bilour and 20 others were killed in a blast during a corner meeting in Peshawar’s Yakatoot area on July 10.

Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) candidate Nawabzada Siraj Raisani was among 130 people killed in a suicide attack on an election rally in the Mastung area. Around 150 people were injured in the tragic incident.

Earlier on the same day, a bomb targeted the convoy of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) candidate and former chief minister Akram Khan Durrani in Bannu.
