MUZAFFARGARH: Awami Raj Party chairman and former member of National Assembly Jamshed Dasti has been booked for violating the fireworks ban and blocking a road to hold a rally.

According to police, a case was registered against him for violating the ban on fireworks and blocking a road for holding a public meeting without permission.

Dasti is contesting from two National Assembly constituencies NA-182 and NA-183 and a provincial assembly seat in southern Punjab district of Muzaffargarh.

Previously the former MNA was arrested and jailed on June 09, 2017 for forcibly opening the sluice gate at a canal to release irrigation water to Dinga minor in the area.

On June 23 an anti-terrorism court granted him bail. Before he could be released from prison he was arrested in yet another case.

He was initially arrested in a case registered by the Karamdad Qureshi police under sections 353, 430, 148, 149 and 186 of the Pakistan Penal Code on an application submitted by the Kot Addu irrigation sub-division officer.

It was alleged in the complaint that Jamshed Dasti had forcibly released water into the Dinga canal and when irrigation officials informed him that it was closed following the court orders he threatened them of dire consequences.
