ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has asked the Ministry of Interior to immediately place on the Exit Control List (ECL) the name of Capt (retd) Safdar, who along with his father-in-law former premier Nawaz Sharif and his wife Maryam Nawaz was convicted by an accountability court in the Avenfield reference.
Sharif was awarded 10 years in prison in the Avenfield properties reference on Friday, while his daughter and her husband were sentenced to seven years’ and one year’s jail term, respectively.
The ousted premier along with his daughter is in London tending to his ailing wife Kulsoom Nawaz, while Captain Safdar is in Pakistan.
Citing sources, ARY News reported, the anti-graft watchdog expressed an apprehension that Safdar can flee the country before his arrest which is likely to take place on Monday.
The Bureau reminded the ministry about its earlier application seeking the Sharifs’ names on the no-fly list. It demanded that the name of the former premier’s son-in-law should be placed on the ECL at once.
Earlier, Caretaker Minister for Law and Justice Barrister Syed Ali Zafar had said a three-member committee will decide whether or not to place the names of Sharif and his daughter on the ECL on a request by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
