Red notice issued to bring back Ishaq Dar

ISLAMABAD:  The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) has issued a red notice against former finance minister Ishaq Dar to bring him back to Pakistan from London, ARY News reported on Saturday.

According to ARY News correspondent, Interpol has approved the request by Pakistans’ Interior Ministry to issue a red notice against the senior PML-N leader who has been declared a proclaimed offender by an accountability court due to his continuous absence from the proceedings.

The former finance minister is accused of possessing assets disproportionate to his declared sources of income.

What is A Red Notice

A Red Notice is a request to locate and provisionally arrest an individual pending extradition.

It is issued by the General Secretariat at the request of a member country or an international tribunal based on a valid national arrest warrant. It is not an international arrest warrant.

Interpol, however, cannot compel any member country to arrest an individual who is the subject of a Red Notice. Each member country decides for itself what legal value to give a Red Notice within their borders.
