ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) has restrained the media from commenting on the case proceedings against Islamabad High Court (IHC) judge Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui, a local media outlet reported on Monday.
The SJC hears complaints against superior courts judges.
Led by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar, the five-member SJC issued a written order saying that no public comments shall be made.
“We direct that no media discussion, articles or editorials shall be written or published in this matter and no public comments shall be made…only proceedings of the council shall be reported,”
The council, however, can allow in-camera proceedings if a different situation arises.
“We allow the proceedings in this matter to be held in open court subject to the restrictive measures taken by the council regarding attendance and presence of persons in court,” read the order. Proceedings are set to continue from July 30.
Eight allegations have been raised against Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui.
The judge was issued a show-cause notice by the SJC for questioning the role of ‘a constitutional institution’ over Tehreek-e-Labbaik’s sit-in at Faizabad in 2017.
The SJC later rejected the judge’s reply.
