KARACHI: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Saturday paid a surprise visit to ailing former Sindh minister Sharjeel Memon’s room at the Ziauddin Hospital and said to have recovered three bottles of liquor from his room.
The chief justice arrived at the hospital in Clifton amid tight security on Saturday morning and went to the room where Memon is being treated after visiting different wards.
He reportedly stayed in his room for two to three minutes.
While hearing a case at the apex court’s Karachi registry after his return from the hospital, the chief justice revealed that three bottles of liquor were recovered from Memon’s room.
He said when he asked the PPP leader about the bottles, he feigned ignorance, saying they didn’t belong to him.
The chief justice directed Attorney General Anwar Mansoor Khan to look into the matter.
It may be mentioned here that Ziauddin hospital is owned by PPP leader Dr Asim Hussain.
The top judge also visited the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) where he examined health facilities being provided there.
Yesterday, the Supreme Court had rejected Sharjeel Memon’s bail plea in a graft case filed against him by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
The bench was informed that the PPP leader, who was arrested in October last year, had been hospitalised from May.
The former Sindh minister along with other suspects has been accused of embezzlement worth Rs 5.76 billion in the award of advertisements to media outlets.
