Court extends Aleem Khan’s remand until March 5

LAHORE: An accountability court on Monday extended remand of detained Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Abdul Aleem Khan until March 5, ARY News reported.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials produced the PTI leader amid tight security before the court of AC Judge Najamul Hassan Bukhari today in a case related to assets beyond known sources of income and offshore companies.

The NAB presented its investigation report against Aleem Khan.

During hearing of the case on February 15, the NAB’s prosecutor said Aleem Khan was a common man in 2000 and suddenly became millionaire as his assets now worth rupees 871 million.

Khan remained Punjab minister in 2003 to 2007 and set up 35 companies, while several of his bank accounts also surfaced.

Meanwhile, Aleem Khan’s counsel in counter arguments in the court said, his client has submitted all of his documents to the anti-graft watchdog body.

AC Judge, Najamul Hassan Bukhari, while approving Aleem Khan’s remand for 10 days adjourned the hearing.

NAB arrests Aleem Khan

It is pertinent to note that the PTI leader had tendered his resignation after being nabbed by the anti-graft watchdog on Feb 6.

The provincial lawmaker had been taken into custody when he appeared before the NAB for the hearing of two cases against him pertaining to offshore companies and assets beyond his sources of income.

His answers had failed to satisfy NAB officials during the inquiry, leading to his arrest.
