ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari has expressed his inability to appear before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the fake accounts case, reports have emerged. The reasons behind his non-appearance are unknown yet.
The anti-corruption watchdog had summoned the former president and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari today for investigation in connection to the mega scam.
Wednesday marked the second time when the PPP co-chief had excused himself from appearing before the bureau.
Now only Bilawal Bhutto will appear before the anti-graft body.
To maintain law and order situation, the Islamabad district administration has banned the entry of party workers in the federal capital.
The anti-corruption watchdog had summoned Zardari and Bilawal separately in the fake accounts case.
Before leaving for Rawalpindi, the PPP chairman thanked party workers and said that “despite [previous] Chief Justice Nisar announcing that I am innocent, the [incumbent] government has no tolerance for constructive criticism and opposition voices, [and it] continue to persecute political opponents. Luckily I’ve had a lot of practice.”
