
KARACHI: At least three terrorists were killed as security forces and police foiled a terror attack targeting the Chinese Consulate in Karachi’s Clifton area, ARY News reported.
A blast and gunshots rang out early on Friday in theClifton area, where the consulate is located, and a plume of smoke rose over the area after the explosion.
Karachi Police Chief Amir Shaikh said the three attackers came in a car filled with explosives but failed to get inside the heavily fortified compound.
“They tried to get inside but the Rangers and police killed one of the terrorists,” Shaikh said.
A gun battle broke out with the two other attackers, but they were also killed, he added.
“There were three attackers and all three have been killed,” Shaikh said. “They could not even get in the compound. They tried to get into the visa section.”
The bodies of terrorists have been shifted to Jinnah hospital and their identification will be soon confirmed as told by Dr. Seemi Jamali, medico legal officer.

The security officials said that the assailants failed to enter the Consulate and two of them were shot dead outside the building by the rangers snipers. Nonetheless, the eyewitnesses previously mentioned that the assailants reached the rooftop of the Consulate and launched attacks from there.
No civilian casualties were reported as per police sources and the Chinese Consul General along with entire Chinese mission of the Consulate remained unharmed during the attack.
Small explosions were also heard from time to time in the Consulate premises, the eyewitnesses added.

Heavy contingents of rangers and police arrived at the site and the exchange of fire took place between the assailants and forces.
Earlier in the morning, security guards of the consulate were attacked by the assailants while the entrance gate was exploded with a hand grenade.
Chief Minister of Sindh Murad Ali Shah telephoned the Chinese Consul General as the incident unfold. The latter informed the CM that he and the mission officials were safe during the attack, the spokesman of the CM said.
The road to the Chinese Consulate was blocked for public transport.
The Chinese Consulate is located in Block-IV of Karachi’s posh Clifton area.
